The 70's Are Back, Baby!
Nov 22, 2022
Eeeekkkkk the excitement is real as one of the big design trends for 2022 has been noted as being ‘Bold patterns and colours’, with the emphasis on 70’s design. Say what!? Can anyone say “This is Miss Lolo’s year!”
So, what exactly are these so-called design gurus saying;"I expect to see a lot of bold color and pattern reminiscent of the 60’s and 70’s, and green in all shades as we continue to bring the outdoors in. I am especially fond of the more muted shades of green such as Sherwin Williams’ Evergreen Fog, as seen in my own bedroom." — Beth Diana Smith, Beth Diana Smith Interior Design
Design by nature is cyclical, with all trends tending to repeat themselves at some point. And this year vintage design trends are back in a big way!. Think velvet, rattan, curved furniture, and even some colors that were popular in the ’70s are back and better than ever.
Those retro paint colours are coming back in a big way and are replacing the neutral colours that have dominated the interior world the last few years (hallelujah). Avocado green and burnt orange are going to make a big comeback.
If the thought of a 70’s revival scares you, don’t worry, the new take on the 70’s, when paired with today’s modern design takes on a completely new and fresh look. The key to keeping your vintage looks contemporary and not like you’ve entered some time-warp is to mix the 70’s vintage inspiration with the new. Even hated design trends like wood paneling can be pulled off if used sparingly.
So, if you’re thinking of bringing some vintage design trends into your home, now is the time to do it.
So, what are my picks of this 70’s colour revival?
Take a look at Resene colours; Avocado, Crisp Green, Clockwork Orange and Flashback.

Stylists tip: Show restraint when integrating this 70’s design trend into your home. Simply add a feature wall and some seventies inspired furniture to your existing pieces, rather than doing a complete 70’s overhaul!
